Pride Month is over, but I haven’t gotten any less annoying.
This month’s list includes a solid helping of LGBTQ+ artists (underscores, LSDXOXO, Kim Petras) and assorted Pillars of the Community (gay icon Mariah Carey, lesbian icon Bruce Springsteen).
There were a lot of exciting moments in music this month—even a few that I could talk to my less-plugged-in friends about—but while there may not be a clear Song of the Summer, there’s one song that held my attention all month long: RXKNephew’s club-ready tribute to our terrible Senator, “John Fetterman”. I briefly DJed in college, and no song has made me want to do it again more than this one.
Elsewhere on June’s playlist, you’ve got:
Mariah Carey back in peak form, rhyming “clearing my throat” with “rigmarole”
Highlights from the transcendent 28 Years Later soundtrack by Young Fathers
A new Kneecap track taking aim at Tory leader Kemi Badenoch—How come the British Isles gets actual, relevant, timely punk music and we don’t?
An Offset-JID tag-team sampling… “Bodies” by Drowning Pool?
Summer-ready singles by Princess Nokia, cupcakKe, Mark Ronson and RAYE
New tracks from Lorde, Lil Wayne, Slick Rick, Cate Le Bon, Tyler Childers, Bruce Springsteen, Pinkshift, and more!
If you like what I do, consider throwing me a few bucks by subscribing or tossing some cash to my Ko-Fi. I’m still looking for stable employment and it’s rough out here, but I stay silly.
